From Lunch & Learns on soft skills to learning leadership training, the fundamental underlying principle of the program is very simple - to empower our employees to improve themselves.
Lynett excelled in every aspect of her new position, helping to establish many of the processes and controls for Contract Administration that remain in place today. Ever eager to explore new horizons in her career development, she sought to transition into the Operations aspect of the project. While keeping a full plate in contract administration, Lynett worked countless hours to learn more about the Operations side of the business, and three years later fully transitioned out of administration into project management. She worked on a multitude of key projects over the next eight years in Operations ranging from tilt-up warehouses to churches and private schools.
Being Lynett, and always being eager to take the next step, she sets her sights for Preconstruction in late 2007, and by 2008 was fully engaged and running wide open as a Preconstruction Manager. She took the experience gained in Contract Administration and Operations, combined them with her drive for continuous growth and improvement for herself and the company, she dove into all aspects of Preconstruction. Over the next eight years in Preconstruction, Lynett gained and shared knowledge and used new technologies to help take "estimating" to "exacting".
As a Senior Preconstruction Manager today, Lynett has quite a legacy at New South. She has been a constant learner, a positive influence, and has developed into a great mentor and a leader in the company. In addition to her immensely successful career at New South over the past 19 years, Lynett raised her three children with her husband Robby, and maintained a balance between family, church, and work.Contact Us For More

In 2008, Doug Davidson stood in front of New South Construction Co. Inc. employees and explained that although it appeared the construction industry was going into a downturn, New South was not going to participate. Davidson told his employees: "We're going to come out the other end the same company or better." As other construction companies cut back, New South Construction kept its people busy. They took lower-margin or no-margin projects. Supervisors went from overseeing $20 million projects to $1 million projects. When other firms laid great talent off, New South Construction scooped them up. The company didn't lay off a single person.
When the industry bounced back, New South Construction was ready to go. But when other companies began hiring again, New South lost a few employees it wished it hadn't lost. "That hit me hard," Davidson said. He and senior leadership decided to articulate New South's vision.
The result, "Vision 2020: Our Future," spells out New South's six-pronged strategic outlook, and "people" tops the list, followed by values, leadership, growth, profit and legacy. "You have to focus on people," Davidson said. "It's easier to cut employee 808 than it is to cut John." Care about your people, be passionately committed to them and they will treat your clients likewise.
No stranger to Atlanta Business Chronicle's Best Places To Work, New South Construction tops this year's list in the medium employer category.
"[Leadership] has done a tremendous job implementing successful processes and procedures, which have helped create a true culture within the company." noted an employee in a survey take for the Best Places To Work program.
"New South offers both off-site and on-site training and continuing education courses. With two days of paid time off for volunteer work it encourages commitment to the community.
And Davidson continues to call (or text if it falls on a weekend) every employee on his or her birthday, something he's done since he founded New South in 1990. "Simple things," he said, "are a lost art. Like saying, 'Hello in the hall.'"

New South Construction is proud to be partnered with Humana Vitality to offer a Wellness Program to our employees. This program helps to assist our employees in living a healthier lifestyle. We offer internal competitions, wellness events and rewards as part of our program. Our goal is to ensure that our employees have the information available to them to make the right choices regarding their health, which, in turn, will make for healthier employees in the future.
We conduct on site health screenings and provide information on how to make positive changes in their lives and improve their health and well-being. Screenings include the following measurements: blood pressure, height, weight, waist, BMI calculation, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose.
We provide in-house Fit Desks so that our employees can get fit while working at the same time. We also go to the lengths of introducing healthy vending options for employees to enjoy throughout the day.
