Dan Smith 

Chief Financial Officer 

Dan joined New South in 1993 and is the firm’s chief financial officer. As the CFO, he leads all facets of the financial, accounting, and administrative functions. In 2009, Dan played an instrumental role in establishing the New South Foundation, which is an approved 501(c)(3) organization providing scholarships and annual giving to more than 50 local charities and community service projects. Since the Foundation’s inception, Dan has continued to oversee and expand its reach.

Within the industry, Dan has been involved with the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia since 2014, having served on the board of directors and currently serving as the chairman of the board. Additionally, he has been an active member of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) since 1999 where he currently serves on the legislative committee. Dan has been a devoted member of Lost Mountain Baptist Church since 2000 and is on the leadership board. When he is not in the office, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. Dan received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tennessee Wesleyan University (formerly Tennessee Wesleyan College).

Dan’s advice to someone looking to be in the construction industry: “Listen and learn. Engage and apply yourself to learn about an area of the business you are not familiar with. You will gain a better understanding of the overall business.”
