Comprehensive renovation of two historic residence halls originally built in the 1940s included updates to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems as well as updates to student areas including restrooms, lounges, kitchens and dorm rooms. The new dormers add seven new student residence rooms in each building with the remainder of the attic containing study spaces, community toilets and lounge space. Each resident hall received a new passenger elevator and monumental stairwell. Both buildings required asbestos abatement, structural shoring, waterproofing, window replacement, new slate roofs, updated finishes and MEP infrastructure as well as all associated site improvements, including hardscapes, landscaping and utilities.
Scope also included construction of a new 13,000-square-foot commons building connecting Glenn & Towers Hall with laundry, fitness, meeting, study, and lobby spaces. The commons building consists of a cementitious panel rainscreen, composite panels, and curtainwall on a steel-framed structure with concrete foundations.
