The 60,000-square-foot building houses grades first through fifth and features a media center, science facilities and administrative offices. Using lower-fume paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants and carpets, as well as recycled materials, the construction process  was very environmentally friendly. The new Lower School encourages environmental awareness – plumbing for the new Lower School is such that water usage is reduced by 20 percent, and bike racks have been incorporated to promote alternate forms of transportation.

The Savannah Country Day Lower School was the first school in Savannah to be LEED certified.
