The Schenck School consisted of two building additions to the existing structure and extensive renovations to all existing facilities. The new construction was composed of a structural steel frame with concrete slabs on metal decking with pre-engineered wood trusses and a shingle roofing system. The exterior features stone veneer and hardiplank siding with custom aluminum-clad wood windows. The interior spaces were configured as classrooms, laboratories, and gathering spaces as well as administrative areas for faculty, maintenance staff and support facilities.
One of the most challenging aspects of this project was tying into the existing building which remained in operation throughout the entire construction process. After the new addition was completed, the entire existing facility was demolished down to structure and completely rebuilt over the summer of 2007. In order to accomplish this, there was a tremendous amount of coordination, phasing and monitoring of the schedule required during the summer renovation.
