The Schenck School | Additions & Renovation
Sandy Springs, Georgia
The Schenck School
The Schenck School consists of two building additions to the existing structure and extensively renovating all of the existing facilities on site. The new construction consists of a structural steel frame with concrete slabs on metal decking with pre-engineered wood trusses and a shingle roofing system. The exterior veneer consists of stone veneer and hardi-plank siding with custom aluminum clad wood windows. The new interior spaces are used for classrooms, laboratories and gathering spaces as well as administrative areas for faculty, maintenance staff and support facilities.
One of the most challenging aspects of this project was tying into the existing building which remained in operation throughout the entire construction process. After the new addition was completed, the entire existing facility was demolished down to structure and completely rebuilt over the Summer of 2007. In order to accomplish this, there was a tremendous amount of coordination, phasing and monitoring of the schedule required during the summer renovation.
