Originally constructed in 1830 as an iron foundry, the historic Savannah site is now known as Trustees’ Garden. New South completed renovations to the site in five phases:
Phase I involved the structural stabilization of a 10,691 SF steel-framed warehouse which was originally constructed in 1902. Scope included the demolition of the existing exterior skin and shoring of failed structural elements. Work also included the installation of helical piles with a grade beam system that acted as a cradle to support the sinking foundation.
Phases II and III included the close-in and dry-in of the building as well as framing, insulated roof decking, corrugated wall and roof panels, window repairs and the installation of storefront doors and windows. Additional structural repairs and historic masonry restoration was also included.
Phase IIII consisted of the final interior finishes as well as completion of an underground full-service kitchen and mechanical room, an underground storage area, and two outdoor patios with bar and kitchen service. Scope also included site-work and grading for the 4,000-person amphitheater lawn and the reconfiguration of the entrance, prefunction spaces, restrooms, and back-of-house service facilities including a chiller plant and lift station. Phase V included all finish work.
